According to today’s NY Post, online flash retailer, Rue La La is about to launch a deals site called Rue Local that caters to well-heeled shoppers in New York City. Big Apple fashionistas love a deal! The move highlights increasingly stiff competition for online coupon sites such as Groupon and Living Social.
Entering Gilt City’s territory, Rue Local’s offers next week will include a $100 gift certificate for Catherine Malandrino’s downtown fashion boutiques, priced at $50; a reserved table with wine and cheese at Hudson Terrace, a Midtown rooftop bar for $60; and a summer weekend at the Surf Lodge in Montauk that includes a free dinner and surfing lessons.
“Our customers are very different from the coupon-clipping customer that frequents Groupon,” Rue Local President Mark McWeeny told The Post. “They spend more than the average ticket, tell all their friends and they come back.”
