I always thought it was MTV’s music stars (sans Lady Gaga and Rihanna) that wore the bad fashion. But I guess we can add viable MTV Movie Awards nominees to the list.
I’ve always hoped that for whatever reason, events like the MTV Movie and Video Music Awards, the Teen Choice Awards, and the Kids Choice Awards would turn into ball gown affairs, but alas, it’s never meant to be like that. Cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, LBDs, and long maxis are all the rage. This one was no different. Balmain seemed to be the designer of choice that night–Mila Kunis, Kristen Stewart, and Leighton Meester were all seen in three very different (but very beautiful Balmain pieces.)
Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively wowed in Michael Kors. Emma Watson was a beauty in Marchesa. Hailee Steinfeld looked way beyond her years in a full-on Louis Vuitton suit.
But rather than merely go through a list of the best and the worst, I also wanted to highlight some looks that compare repeat stars from last year’s awards and this year’s. Did those stars look better than before? Or worse? Let’s take a look.
Kristen Stewart looked way better this year in Balmain than she did last year in a mismatched top and skirt with a greasy ponytail. The hardcore safety pin dress not only fit her better, but it spoke to Kristen Stewart’s true rock & roll style sensibility.
I’m actually more of a fan of Niki Reed’s flower print number from last year. This year, she just looked so blah. But I guess the big news wasn’t her clothes, it was her engagement to American Idol alum Paul MacDonald!
Elizabeth Reaser looked great both years! I much enjoyed her revealing jumpsuit from last year as I did her sparkly little black dress from this year. Both were sexy, but not overtly so and didn’t take the attention away from anyone else.
I much enjoyed Cameron Diaz’s Diane von Furstenberg number from last year. It’s one that is hard to top. And she didn’t top it this year.
