Second City Style was honored and excited to be picked by Smirnoff vodka to participate in the Smirnoff DIY Style Challenge! As part of a select group of fashion bloggers, we were given a brand new Smirnoff T-shirt and told to style it however we saw fit—cut, sew, rip, tear, embellish, add, subtract—so that the final product represented our personal style image.
I recruited the help of fellow SCS editor Taneisha Jordan to be my creative assist and model and together we styled a look that was both current and edgy. The styling elements consisted of:
–Cutting off the sleeves of the shirt and widening the neck for an off the shoulder look.
-Belt loops were cut along the bottom of the shirt. Two strips of fabric from other t-shirts were braided together to make a brightly-colored belt built right into the shirt.
-A couple circular cutouts were also made in the front and back for a cute, peekaboo look.
-The top was paired with a black mini with silver hardware, patterned tights and a chunky necklace for an urban, rocker chick look.
We believe the style is young and fresh and reflects a modern yet urban street style that’s apparent in cosmopolitan cities today. From Chicago, to L.A. to New York, we believe this outfit could translate on any coast as the look of a girl who loves to be unique, create a style that’s all her own and above all—loves to have fun!
Voting will take place from June 6th to June 10th – the photo that receives the most ‘Likes’ will be named the winner and a donation will be made to the charity of their choice.
Also, stay tuned for a custom-made cocktail we will be creating to complement our styled look coming soon! Thank you all and VOTE Second City Style!
