Summer Trend Alert: Accordion Pleats

June 10, 2011 • Fashion, Fashion Blog, Trends

Yes, when conjuring up pleats, I too tend to think, big, boxy and totally unflattering. This season, however, pleats are getting a new look. Accordion pleats are tiny, chic, in flowing fabrics and dare I say…totally flattering. I am rather liking this more feminine reincarnation.  When I first noticed an accordion pleat maxi skirt I liked this season, it was surprisingly in an American Apparel window and I just can’t go there. I have boycotted all things related to Dov Charney. Thankfully there are plenty of other options. What I love most about the accordion pleat is that you can dress it up or down and wear it long or short. Since it flows, it’s flattering on just about every body. Here are some we are liking now:

1. J. Crew Accordion Dress in Super 120s, $250

2. ASOS Pleated Swing Dress with Halter Neck, $64.63

3. Carmen Marc Valvo Accordion Pleated Halter Gown, $895

4. ASOS Maxi Dress with Pleated Skirt, $120.02

5. Rare Peter Pan Collar Color Block Pleated Dress, $83.09

6. Halston Heritage Pleated Lame One-Shoulder Top, $245

7. ADAM Broom Crinkled Silk-Chiffon Mini Skirt, $300

8. Halston Heritage Pleated Chiffon One-Shoulder Gown, $795

9. Givenchy Silk Chiffon Skirt, $1948
