If you’ve ever seen Tucker Blair belts, then you know it’s signature aesthetic is so preppy, it could only belong at a polo party on Martha’s Vineyard. Needle-pointed crabs and mallards and flags are, needless to say, for a limited audience. And owner Taylor Llewellyn realizes that the Hamptons, Nantucker and most of Connecticut is a small market at best, that’s why the creative head has been looking to expand the Tucker Blair influence beyond the uber-prep crowd.
So, Llewellyn has signed Tucker Blair up for just about the hippest, edgiest and departure from preppiest collaboration he could possibly find—Opening Ceremony. “I’ve known about Opening Ceremony for a number of years,” said Llewellyn, whose business is based in Washington, D.C. “But I’m pretty preppy, so it’s not a place I’ve shopped a lot.” Tucker Blair for Opening Ceremony will hit stores July 15 and features five belts ($110) done in the signature Tucker Blair construction but with decidedly edgier motifs including leopard print, a white rabbit and a Guatemalan pattern. So stock up on your Cowboys & Indians motifs now because Opening Ceremony is about to give Tucker Blair a makeover in cool.
