She’s not even born yet and baby girl Beckham is already influencing her mother’s business. Former Spice Girl, wofe to an Adonis and fashion design virtuoso, Victoria Beckham has launched a dress line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham. Not to be thought of as the proverbial younger sister (or daughter, for that matter) of Beckham’s main line, the dresses embody their own unique aesthetic, namely youthful and girly.
Beckham told WWD she was inspired by the cartoon character Emily the Strange for the dress collection, which will retail between $550 and $900. A moody adolescent often followed by four cats has a signature look involving loose silhouettes and color blocking. “These are the kind of dresses I’ve been searching for,” Beckham said, “The perfect little summer dress, something that was fun, something that was girly, something that was easy to wear, something that would take you from day through the night.”
Other details involve mod-like shapes somewhat reminiscent of the 60s, vibrant hues and sweet little accents like bows and scalloped trims. It is a significant departure from the sleek shapes and subdued sophistication of Beckham’s eponymous collection. But it’s nice to see that Posh can loosen up and have a little fun (maybe we’ll even see her smile soon!)
The Victoria by Victoria Beckham dress collection will launch for Spring 2012 and the designer said she is already planning on “making quite a fuss when this launches at retail.” She reportedly already has plans in the works for a debut event during London Fashion Week. When it comes to retailers already carrying her main line, Beckham said she would like to see the new line merchandised in tandem with her original collection in existing stores. Perhaps as a sort of mother/daughter duo.
