Bare Escentuals' new solid shadows

For all you Bare Escentuals fans out there—your peepers are about to get a lot more colorful this fall. In their continuing efforts to expand beyond the reach of their popular mineral makeup, the cosmetics brand is launching a line of pressed eye shadows next season. The shadows are called Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow and will come as 2.0 (duos) and 4.0 (quads). “We heard from our customers that they loved our loose shadows, but wanted portability as an option,” said Sarina Godin, vice president of product development.

According to WWD, Bare Escentuals prefers the term “solid eye shadow” over “pressed shadow”, since the former pays more attention to to the makeup’s sea-mineral formula, free of fillers, binders, preservatices and artificial chemicals. “Every ingredient in the formula needs to have a purpose,” Godin said. Though the company has been researching the concept of “solid shadows” for some time, the missing ingredient was discovered executive chairman  Leslie Blodgett watched her husband cook. She asked him about the difference between regular olive oil and cold-pressed olive oil. Learning that cold-pressed olive oil retains more nutrients, Blodgett directed her team to find a cold-pressed oil for the solid shadows. The result is a formula containing SeaNutrive Mineral Complex — or minerals from algae and seaweed — along with cold-pressed borage oil, caffeine and cucumber.

As a result the skincare benefits of the shadows include s skin care benefits, including antioxidant protection and antiaging properties. The color of the shades will range from neutrals to bold hues, with matte and pearlized finishes. The duo will retail for $20 and the quads for $30. Expect the shadows on QVC shelves by Sept. 29.
