Outfit Of The Day for August 2, 2011. An Appropriate Vintage Sundress For Day

August 2, 2011 • Fashion Blog, Outfit Of The Day

On these terribly hot summer days a cool sundress is a good way to go, and a vintage sundress is often more “appropriately” styled (it’s more covered up!). I found this black cotton tiered sheath at an antiques fair. It is probably from the late 50’s or early 60’s, and the neckline keeps it more businesslike, even though it has flirty ruffles. I am able to hand wash it, which I love! The dress was several sizes too big, so I simply took in the sides and now it is totally comfortable, which I doubt would be the case if it was truly my size.

Dress: Vintage 50’s-60’s “Domino” Cotton Sheath Dress. Find Vintage 50’s-60’s Dresses on Ebay, or this Calvin Klein Black Stretch Tiered Seam Sheath Dress, $89.

Handbag: I found this GAP gold metallic leather clasp clutch years ago! Find this similar Hobo International ‘Skyler’ Metallic Leather Foldover Clutch, Now $78.90

Necklaces: I added a vintage beaded necklace to a K.Amato beaded necklace (no longer available). Layer on the beads!  Or, this Kate Spade New York ‘Wood You Be Mine’ Necklace, $232.90 has a similar look.

Shoes: IXI Black Patent Cork Wedge Sandals (no longer available), See these Franco Sarto ‘Felix’ Wedge Sandals, Now: $44.90
