After Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson, its seems there is a new MJ in the works of taking over the world! The Daily reported today that “high-ranking industry” sources have confirmed that LVMH mogul Bernard Arnault is in fact laying his golden touch on Marc Jacobs for the head design role at Dior. Jacobs already holds the current artistic director title at Louis Vuitton, as well as holds the reigns at his own eponymous lines, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs. Yet despite the full plate, Jacobs may be up for the challenge.
Although neither Dior nor Jacobs’ camp was willing to comment, The Daily reported an announcement to be “imminent”. It’s easy to see why Arnault would pick the game changing designer who, after starting at Louis Vuitton in 1997, became almost single-handedly responsible for its transcendence into a worldwide brand. No doubt Arnault sees a horizon of similar potential at Dior, which is currently a smallish piece of the LVMH pie. However if Jacobs chooses to take the role at Dior, he will have to leave Louis Vuitton (he has to sleep sometime!), in which case the next buzz-worthy topic will be who gets to fill his achingly stylish shoes.
