True beauty junkies know that the Nordstrom counters are the one-stop shop for must-have beauty supplies. They offer all of our favorite brands like Chanel, Dior, Chantecaille, Nars, and Butter London. Nordstrom has the smartest go-to beauty gals when it comes to makeup tips, tricks, and emergency fixes because many of their experts are now cross-trained in every brand. Lucky for us, this means no insincere advice from beauty counter girls who are dying to sell only one brand. The experts here are truly updated on it all, and are going to give you an honest dose of all the best goodies from each brand across the store. This week I had a little chat with a panel of makeup artists and creative directors from a handful of our favorite brands, and I’ve got all the yummy details on what’s going to be hot this fall at each counter.
First off, the major trend is bringing back a little luxury into you’re life with a touch of old Hollywood glamour. Fall 2011 runways are encouraging us to slick on a metallic eye, some deep saucy nails, and a powerful red lip. Smooth skin with a healthy glow never fails to create a perfect canvas for our current obsession, especially when lusting after the glamorous trends created by our favorite old film stars. I want to concentrate on my two favorites, the eyes and the nails.
Let’s jump in with the smoky metallic cat eye. Platinum is the new metallic. It’s easy to adapt for all skin tones, and to add on accents of copper to play up the shimmer. Even add on a pearly plum liner or a silver liner with a small 60’s wing before the smoky metallic shadow. I love Chantecaille’s new Gel Liner in a pencil form, which hit stores this week. It’s a brilliant new formula that mimics your favorite gel liners, which often come in a messy pot. It dries on well, but easily blends with the attached brush end, and the formula is ridiculously easy to apply for that runway look at home or on the go. Try it in “Jet”. As far as shadows go, I loved the Dior 3 Couleurs Ready-To-Wear Smoky Eyes Palette. It contains the perfect cream to powder base and two mixable shadows for an easy smoldering eye. It’s an easy-to-use palette for day or night, in an amazing slide open compact with a pop up mirror. Finish off with a plump lash. As a mascara-aholic, I know I’m dying to try the Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara, which is actually a lash growth product and mascara in one. It promises 25% longer lashes in just two weeks! Remember don’t overload on the metallic lids, it will cheapen the look. Also you should never forget to keep the lip and the eye balanced. Choose one to vamp up, and keep the other subtle.
Lets move to the perfectly polished nails that will remain our hottest accessory this season. Rounded, almond shaped nails are the key here. Paint on a deep autumn appropriate shade of metallic slate, an olivey gold, a blueberry toned red, or even classic black. This fall is begging you to step away from the safe nude nails. Go solid or do your own nail art by slashing on some graffiti inspired streaks. Nonie Crème (who’s the founding creative director at Butter London, and creator of runway nails for designers all over the world) says not to be afraid of layering and playing to create new shades and DIY nail art, because today’s art is all about imperfect slashing strokes. Another hot trend is a two-tone nail with one color in a half-moon shape at the cuticle over top of a solid nail. Try some new favorites including Butter London’s 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Wallis or Nars Nail Polish in Gallion.
Go wild for fall beauty by mixing and playing with all the new goodies. It’s an inexpensive and easy way to stay gorgeous, and keep up with the latest trends!
