Fendi Brings the Boom Boom (Room)

Mercedes-Benz Honors Derek Lam
“Mercedes-Benz Presents” is back, and this season’s chosen designer will be Derek Lam. As part of the recognition, Mercedes-Benz will subsidize Lam’s show, which is scheduled on September 11, and fete 10 Crosby, Lam’s new diffusion line, on Fashion’s Night Out.
Malandrino’s New Focus
Ever since Catherine Malandrino canceled her presentation for Fashion Week, there have been rumors circling that the designer’s line might be in trouble. Malandrino had been scheduled to hold her presentation on September 11, but a rep says the company “is in a time of transition. We’re refocusing, and we’ll be back in February.” Malandrino’s company had been in talks with clothing conglomerate Kellwood earlier this spring to acquire the brand, but the deal never materialized.
Malandrino will still be around next week. The designer is scheduled to stage a runway show sponsored by Clairol and Covergirl on February 8, which is the day of Fashion’s Night Out.
Tavi’s New Website
Tavi Gevinson’s new Web magazine, Rookie, will launch Monday at rookiemag.com according to WWD. The editorial content for the site will be dictated by monthly themes and aimed towards teenage girls. There will only be about three posts a day, scheduled for times that are convenient for its target audience: after school, after dinner and before bed.
As WWD reported in early August, Gevinson’s Web magazine will not be connected to Jane Pratt, or the owner of Pratt’s xoJane.com, Say Media, as originally planned. Gevinson said at the time, “It was just that I want to have full control, and it’s important to me that we’re independent.” Gevinson said that there would be advisers brought on board to help advertise the Web site.
