The moment is finally here – TOPSHOP and TOPMAN are opening on Michigan Avenue! Situated at 830 North Michigan (next to competing fast fashion brand H&M and across from WaterTower Place), this 30,000 square foot outpost is bring British style to the Windy City.
Launch festivities begun last night with a fabulous party at the Paris Club, and they continued with a ribbon cutting this morning, hosted by Brittney Payton (daughter of beloved Chicago Bears player Walter Payton). Sir Philip Green himself did the honors and cut the ribbon, and the doors open at 11:00am local time today. There’s a runway show featuring Fall/Winter 2011 looks this afternoon.
Local visitors can expect to find lots of faux fur and velvet – plush styles that work for both dreary British and Chicago winters. We especially like the navy blue Adina velvet ankle boot, which is a classic silhouette in an unexpected fabric. There’s also a good amount of animal print (like this spotted pony skin belt), lace dresses, tunics, and tops, and Mad Men inspired jackets and shirtdresses. However, we’re not sure how we feel about the temporary lip tattoos – they’ll no doubt be spotted on the club kids, but something about leopard print lips just screams fashion victim.
