This New York Fashion Week, the Concept Korea initiative returned with a fashion show at Avery Fisher Hall on this past Friday. The program aims to promote Korean talent here in America, and this year featured designers Doho, Son Jung Wan, Steve J & Yoni P and Lie Sang Bong for women’s wear. They were picked by a selection committee that includes the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Lisa Smilor, consultant Fern Mallis, the Museum at FIT’s Valerie Steele, and IMG Fashion’s Christina Neault.

Son Jung Wan

Son Jung Wan creates a new concept by adding original value to the existing trend of ’90s relaxed, off the body silhouette with ’50s glamour and bold ’70s layering. The blend of retro and modern, with a sight mix of minimalist brings the whole collection together.

The Doho woman is swept up in a range of color which changes depending on the light. It displays the alluring feminine look that stands with a supple drape and delicate layering. Asymmetrical cuts, a mix of materials and couture details define the sensual avant-garde spirit of collection. The combination of textured knits with chiffon and lace creates a sophisticated and mysterious mood.

Lie Sang Bong

Lie Sang Bong‘s inspiration for the upcoming Spring ’12 collection comes from the traditional Korean architectural elements known as “Dancheong”, the art of painting wooden buildings and structures with decorative patterns. Vivid colors paired with a restrained silhouette makes the collection simple yet fun. The use of various kinds of silk highlights the airy movements of the dresses along with a mix of jersey and tencel.

Steve J and Yoni P

The fashion-forward urbanite escapes the sea of drab office monotony for a taste of color. Dressed in sweeping skirts, slouchy blazers and luxe sporty separates, this go-getting jet-setter is footloose and fancy free. Steve J and Yoni P update the hippie-go-lucky romance of summer, giving it a seamlessly sporty vibe and revealing a fresh take on all things rosy.
