Summary: Spring was in full bloom with eye-popping bright citrus hues, blues and white at Joy Cioci‘s Spring ’12 presentation at the Box at Lincoln Center. I was struck by the elaborate detailing of each piece, including leather trims, textures, ruffles, and laser cut leather detailing. Some looks were rather over-the-top, like the silk chiffon chartreuse motion blur print blouse and pants. The Joy Cioci collection had more of a European vibe than any other collection I saw during New York fashion week.
I was thrilled to meet this obviously talented designer. This is only the second collection Joy has presented at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. She apprenticed at Gucci, Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci, so the influence of her luxury background was apparent. “The collection is about luxury, versatility and not just one season,” Joy told me. “These looks can be for day or night. Women know how to style themselves, and can mix the pieces to style them to their own aesthetic.” I was so glad I spoke to her because I thought her approach to this collection was brilliant. I took another look and started styling some of the pieces for myself. I would take the chartreuse motion blur blouse and wear it with the white shorts (with leather trim!) or wear the shorts with the coral blouse as shown. I also could not resist adding the stunning red-orange cold shoulder ruffle dress to my collection! Joy Cioci offers luxury in pieces that you collect and wear year after year.
