Summary: The Son Jung Wan Spring ’12 Collection was modern, sophisticated, versatile and absolutely gorgeous. This collection was the best that I saw at New York Fashion Week, not only because I had wonderful time meeting the designer backstage before the show, and not because is new to me (this is only the second time she showed at Lincoln Center) it was because I would wear so many of her pieces. Son Jun Wan is a well known and well regarded designer in Korea, and from what I could tell, for very good reason. Seeing the pieces up close, I noticed the clean details and the subtle texture variations in her use of fabrics like silver leather with raw silk, and shiny coated cotton with wool. She used sequins as an overall texture rather than an embellishment, and her color palette of shell colors, metallics from silver to bronze and rich deep navy was breathtaking. My favorites from this collection included so many, from the simple cream linen dress with the surprise of a small open slit at the side of the waistline, to the opulently shiny metallic taupe coated cotton jackets with slim satin pants, to the richly hued navy silk pieces. I can’t stop there. I would like my closet filled with Son Jung Wan.
