Former Editor in Chief of French Vogue and current style adviser to Barneys New York, Carine Roitfeld, is not losing momentum anytime soon. She told Fashionologie yesterday that she will be launching her own magazine starting next year, with about four issues a year in the works. And in her true classic fabulous self, she wants it in print.
She noted, “It will be a magazine. I would love to do four times a year. Initially, I wanted it on the Internet, but it’s a lot of investment, a lot of time, I do not know if it suits me. I know that now you have to work with the Internet, and the photos are of very good quality on the iPad, but things quickly go out of style on the Internet. We’ll start with print. A September issue next Fall, in English.”
Huzzah for the English speakers! Meanwhile, as we begin to dabble deliciously in what the content of the magazine will be, Carine is keeping mum on the title of the tome, though she did rule out that the mag will boast her face every month in the fashion of Oprah’s O. “I could call it Carine Roitfeld in the manner of Oprah Winfrey, and put myself on the cover every month like she does, but I’m not sure if this is what people want.” Um, we’d love that actually.
One thing is for sure though, the industry’s heaviest hitters will be involved in the project and that it will result in nothing less than amazing, with names so far being dropped including Marie-Amelie Sauve, Mario Testino and Stephen Gan. Roitfeld wants to make sure she’s not back into a corner from her reputation, and that her vision stretches far beyond the fashion realm. “I have a lot to say about fashion, not just about fashion but beauty, art. I’m looking for a new way to talk to readers. ” Believe us Carine, we’re listening.
