Celebrity Style: Fashion Week Trends And The Celebs Who Wear Them — Heidi Klum, Demi Moore, Camilla Belle and Zoe Saldana

October 3, 2011 • Celebrity Style, Magazine

New York Fashion Week came and went, followed by London, Milan, and Paris. We came, we saw, we conquered.  We watched designers showcase their undeniable talent and celebrities wear stylish pieces to match.

One of the best things about Fashion Week month (besides the fabrics, unique looks and talented styles, of course) is the fact that we get to see what designers have chosen to be the best trends for the upcoming season. And while each designer adds their own special signature something to each garment (you know when it’s Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, etc.) there’s no denying that somehow they all seem to hone in on similar trends. This year, pop art colors, prints and mesh and are running rampant.  But of course, let’s not forget some of the most sought-after trends for the Spring/Summer season—animal prints, geometry, gold and floral. Yes, they’ve been here in past years, but this year the designers (Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferretti, Donna Karan and Michael Kors, among others) have added a new bolder statement-making element.

Looks like celebs are already in on it.  We’re already seeing them wearing trends that were a hit on the runway. Perhaps it’s because the same trends are making a comeback. Perhaps it’s because they always get in on the trends early. Whatever the case, these stylish fashionistas also give us an idea of what is going to be popular in the coming year…and what’s really popular now.

Heidi Klum: Animal Prints

We saw animal prints enhanced through a jungle motif/tribal trend that paraded through shows like Donna Karan, Michael Kors, and even Diane von Furstenberg who said that her collection was based on Africa (though it was so bright, pretty and airy that we somehow failed to see it.) A few of the shows had animals as prints (think birds at Victoria Beckham and cats at Miu Miu, but of course, the leopard print trend still reigns supreme and we saw it at shows like Roberto Cavalli. Nicki Minaj may have worn leopard to Oscar de la Renta (we’re still wondering why) but it’s Heidi Klum who really knows this trend is here to stay and so we’re not surprised to see her in a cheetah print getup looking divine as always.

Demi Moore: Geometric Prints

Prints were EVERYWHERE at the Fashion Weeks and bolder then we’ve ever seen them! It wasn’t only the eye-popping colors that made us stand up and take notice, it was also the loud (and we mean LOUD) prints that followed us everywhere during New York, Milan, and especially London. We saw them at shows like Proenza Schouler, Peter Pilotto, D&G, Erdem and of course, the signatures, Missoni and Emilio Pucci, who always have them but have reinvigorated their patterns for 2012.  These prints had shape and vibrancy.  When a celeb wears prints, we have to think of them as being a bit of fashion risktaker because prints can be difficult to pull off.  They can be busy, all over the place, or just look wrong.  Unless you wear them with subtlety like Ms. Demi Moore who only chose to hint at them in her dress with geometric prints. That in itself is a trendy statement and one that Moore certainly hits perfectly.

Camilla Belle: Gold

It wasn’t until Milan that we really started seeing the gold comeback on the runway. Versace studded outfits with it, Gucci played with it and Balenciaga softly eased into it later in Paris.  But it was shows like Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli that really told us this trend was making an unscheduled return that we wish had arrived sooner, because they worked in the trend so well. Trendsetter Camilla Belle, a fashionista who is regularly at the shows may have not been at many of the shows this year, but she’s always been a true fashionista in every sense of the word–always styling her outfits so that they hit upon trends in unique and stylish new ways.  Which is why her Gucci look here truly hits the nail on the head and reciprocates exactly what we’re talking about when it comes to celebs and style ahead of the times.

Zoe Saldana: Floral

Florals have always come and gone at Fashion Week every season (especially for Spring/Summer) but this year, the key difference was the sudden embellishments, embroideries and overall oversize of the flowers in question.  Shows like Adam and Blumarine had no qualms about placing them on their designs, no matter how big. Here’s what I love about the fact that Zoe Saldana is wearing them. As you may notice, her florals are not overabundant nor are they oversize. Nevertheless, this girl is prone to minimalism in her fashion and casts herself as a Calvin Klein fan, among other fashion designers who promote simplistic yet statement looks. Yet, here she is wearing floral. What do you think this says for the coming year in fashion?
