Coty Signs Scent Deal with Elite

Coty Inc. has signed a deal with Elite World, the modeling agency, to develop and market a new scent line bearing the Elite name.

The initial collection of four scents is slated to launch in February in Europe and in late March or early April in the U.S., rolling out to additional markets throughout the spring. It will be distributed in mass market, drugstore and perfumery doors, with a door count similar to that of Coty’s Adidas and Playboy licenses. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Hollywood Postpones Fur Ban Decision

The West Hollywood City Council on Monday night postponed its consideration of a controversial fur apparel ban for at least 30 days. The postponement gives the council time to clarify what fur goods would be covered by the ban and solicit information from retailers affected by the proposed ban. “They wanted the business community’s voice to be heard, so it was good news for us,” said Genevieve Morrill, president and chief executive officer of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which opposes the ban on fur apparel. “I am hopeful that we will try to find some compromise.”

Last month, the city council voted unanimously to move forward with the nation’s first ban on sales of new fur apparel products. Fashion retailers in West Hollywood, an estimated 46 percent of which carry fur items, are concerned the ban will cause customers to flee to neighboring cities with no restrictions on fur sales.

Chico’s Cast Diane Keaton for Holiday Campaign

Chico’s has signed up its first-ever celebrity endorser, recruiting Diane Keaton to appear in its holiday advertising campaign. A print component will break in November magazines, including O, The Oprah Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar and InStyle, while television spots will air this holiday season on both network television and syndicated programs.

“Chico’s embraces being an individual, and I love individual style. They’re not afraid of variety. Chico’s understands women,” said Keaton. “Love makes the world go ’round. And so do hats and gloves and a fabulous belt.”
