The Giambattista Valli for Macy’s Impulse Collection Is Here. Shop Our Favorite Looks Now!

Today marks a special occasion for longtime Giambattista Valli lovers. The Italian icon has teamed up with Macy’s for his own design collaboration in their now well known Impulse department, which has most recently made waves with the retailer’s partnership with Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld has been named by some as the pioneer of the high street store collaborative trend, having blazed the trail for many to follow when he teamed up with H&M in 2004. Now, H&M hold court with retail giants like Macy’s and Target to team up designers ranging from up and coming CFDA darlings to classic icons. And they aren’t showing signs of slowing soon. H&M’s highly anticipated collection with Versace comes out next month, Gwen Stefani has inked a deal for a kid’s collection from her line L.A.M.B., which drops in November and after Valli’s current capsule collection, Macy’s Impulse has tapped one of Anna Wintour’s favorite designers, Doo-Ri Chung.

But with all this churning out of fast fashion, is it even fashion at all? Karl Lagerfeld’s Impulse collection didn’t exactly garner rave reviews, getting marked down after a considerably short shelf life. But from first looks, Valli’s collection seems to be a keeper. With a dash of holiday glitz, the collection is comprised of rich textures, animal prints, bold color and delicate details. Though many of the looks are party dresses, there are notable separates that can be worn for work or play and a few cute accessories like printed tights and evening bags (although the bags seem to be already sold out online!) All in all, the collection is definitely worth perusing, especially because the pieces range from $50 to $150!

To get you started, here are my top picks for fun holiday staples:

The Giambattista Valli for Impulse for Three Quarter Sleeve Sequin Lace Faux Fur Trim Jacket, $139. Throw this on over a slinky top and velvet pants for a chic night on the town look, or keep it open over a cashmere shell and trousers for a chic power lunch.

The Giambattista Valli for Impulse Animal Print Metallic Jacquard Skinny Ankle Pant, $99 is a fierce and ferocious take on the season’s most popular cut: the ankle skinny pant. Pair these babies with an over-sized chunky knit and leather booties. Or to dress it up more, take a cue from the black tuxedo stripe and slip on alacy black top and peep toe pumps and you’ll be equal parts class and sass.

The Giambattista Valli for Impulse Organza Degrade Soutache Petal Detail Skirt, $100 is a subtle show stopper. It’s crinkled organza detailing makes for a look that’s both modern and romantic and it’s bold, crimson color is perfect for heating up cold winter nights.

The Giambattista Valli for Impulse Long-Sleeve Ruffle Front Blouse, $69 is a sweet and creamy little top that gives you tons of bang for your buck. The vintage-inspired ruffle front is perfect for office parties with pencil skirts or wide leg trousers. But pair it with a sequined mini or velvet maxi and you’ll be ready for anything from cocktails to the opera.

And finally, a full package piece that embodies both sexiness and sophistication one would be The Giambattista Valli for Impulse One Shoulder Ruched Jersey Dress, $99.  This stunner stand out first by the color, named Cosmo Pink, and by the swaths of fabric draped gorgeously (and flatteringly!) around the body. Killer heels and maybe a bling piece or two would be all you need to stop traffic pretty much all year round.

Check out my picks and the rest of the Giambattista Valli for Impulse capsule collection at but hurry! Just like any design collaboration, you know these stylish pieces won’t last long!
