Who says you can’t find true love in the workplace? Even when the workplace means heading up one of the most famous and successful Italian luxury houses in the world. Such is the case with Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini and her recently revealed boyfriend of two years, Gucci’s CEO Patrizio di Marco. Giannini and di Marco just decided to make their romance public, something that reportedly started on a trip to China in June 2009. The couple had kept their secret out of integrity for their professional relationship and were worried that news of their workplace romance would make shareholders nervous. The couple did, however, come clean to their boss PPR chief François-Henri Pinault, albeit separately.
Financial News reported, “Mr di Marco says he went to Rome to speak to Mr Pinault; Ms Giannini spoke to Mr Pinault separately. Both Mr di Marco and Ms Giannini were, they say, fully prepared to leave if that was what was required, but Mr Pinault “was very supportive”. According to Mr Pinault, “this is a family business – it was started by my father, and I know how that can feel and seem to the outside world, but I also know how much that makes you be strict with yourself. And I knew them, so I knew if anything this would make them more demanding with themselves.” So who says romance in the business world is dead?!
Di Marco says that the relationship definitely shouldn’t worry shareholders, since their relationship is “very serious.” Can you imagine a Gucci-bred baby? He/she would be more stylish than even Rachel Zoe’s little tot!
