Though it feels as if winter has just started, Topshop is already thinking about spring flowers. For the upcoming Unique Spring/Summer 2012 collection, there will be enough pastels and sherberts, you won’t even have to think about brights… they will already be in your face and very, very personal!
The collection starts with its inspiration from its roots of London. Many in America may not know this, but London will be home to the upcoming Olympic games in 2012. And with that in mind, this is very much a fore thought in the collection. Described as an “urban, neon Cleopatra” brights and geometric shapes take over with a slight 1990’s fashion edge.
Working as an extension of the S/S 2012 runway collection, you can expect a lot of different dimensions. Walking through the collection, one can see that both colors and fabrics will play a big part. Between the neoprene and light fabrics, there will be something for everyone. There were a few tribal-esque prints, mixed in with literal (and liberal) color-blocking, as well as everyone’s favorite spring print: florals. Much of the pieces were accented with exposed back zippers, many with a large zipper tab to bring out a bit of edge to each piece. Metallics also graced the collection in a few spare accessories, as well as some platform stacked sandals.
There are many different shades of neon colors in the fabrics. Though this can seem a bit jarring at first, upon closer inspection, one can see that the colors have a softness to them. With each of the different cuts of each piece, many of the bright neon has been turned down a bit to reveal a ladylike quality. In this retrospect, these pieces work for everyone and do not yield to just the tall, thin model types.
Expect to see some of these pieces (and more) starting next January. If you aren’t lucky enough to live next to a TopShop, you can always shop online at topshop.com!
