On Monday, leading Canadian footwear “Shoeru” Ron White unveiled two lines of women’s shoes to be carried exclusively at Nordstrom (there will be 30 styles to choose from).
Ladies, these are the shoes your feet have been waiting for…luxury, comfort and style all in one pair. You will look glamorous but feel like you are wearing running shoes. White’s shoes are made in the same factory where Valentino and Chanel footwear are manufactured. Need I say more? (I am not allowed to mention what factory the boots are made in, but I will be buying a pair or two or three…)
How can stylish couture shoes feel good on your feet? White has a background in both biomechanics and orthotics. After spending 20 years in the shoe retail business, White decided to take comfort and style to the next level. White spent four years testing different concepts before he perfected the All Day Heel (ADH), which has become a best-seller. The ADH shoe has NASA-created PORON cushioning, super flex construction and an ultra-thin Vibram sole. Following the success of the ADH line, the Ron White Signature Collection was born. Picture a white sole (similar to the red sole that a famous couture designer uses on his shoes) which comes from Ron’s last name.
The Signature Collection was unveiled at the 2011 Golden Globes and received very well. These fashion forward designs are being worn by celebrities in Hollywood, including 90210’s Anna Lynne McCord who was heard on Access Hollywood saying, “Finally! Someone gets it! This is what women need – thank you Ron! The White Sole is the new Red Sole for me.” Canada’s First Lady, Lauren Harper, only wears Ron White Shoes. And that’s not all – the Duchess of York is one of White’s loyal and royal customers. After meeting the Duchess who was dressed in a silver sequin gown, at a gala in Toronto, White offered the Duchess a pair of shoes from his Signature Collection. After slipping them on, she fell for them. The next day White received a call from a palace – it was an order for fourteen pairs of shoes for the Duchess herself.
When I spoke with White, he told me that his favorite shoe in the Signature Collection is the Skylar, named after his close friend Skylar James. The best seller in Canada is the suede shoe with a bow – the Patrice. The idea for the design of the signature present bow came from a photo of White celebrating his seventh birthday, the old fashioned stick-on bow.
The Ron White Foundation donates $100 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation from each pair of the Ron White Signature Robin Onyx & Passion Pink Pump (retail for $495) that are sold. This is at the heart of White’s charities – one of his favorite aunts, the same aunt that loaned him the money to start his business, is a breast cancer survivor.
Who has inspired White the most in his life? “The women all around me,” he says. “ My main concern was what do they want and need in a shoe – fashion, current trend and style, and wearable.” White told me the best advice that he ever received was, “Go with your gut. Listen to the whisper in your ear.” And this is what White did as he launched his latest collections at Nordstrom – starting an 11-city tour which began in Seattle and ended in Chicago.
Ron White’s collections may also be purchased online at Nordstrom.
