McQ Makes a Comeback
McQ, Alexander McQueen’s younger, more commercial line, is coming of age with plans for a flagship here and a runway show during London Fashion Week. McQ, which offers men’s and women’s wear and accessories, will open its first stand-alone store in the spring at 14 Dover Street in London’s Mayfair. The store, in a Georgian town house, will span 2,948 square feet, and has been designed by Pod.
For the first time, McQ will present the fall collection with a catwalk show during London Fashion Week in February as a preview to the store opening. The main Alexander McQueen collection will continue to show during Paris Fashion Week in March.
Coach Makes its First Ever TV Spots
On Black Friday, Coach will break its first television commercial for its new fragrance Poppy Flower. The 30-second commercial will run through Christmas on national networks such as ABC and the CW, according to a spokesman. Poppy Flower’s spots will launch in tandem with another campaign for the “Best Gift Tag,” which includes a series of eight video animations that show hangtags re-creating the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island Ferry, hot dog vendors and its flagship on Madison Avenue. Hundreds of hangtags were photographed to get the lighting and shadows just right for the videos that will be available on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, e-cards and in select Coach store windows. As part of the campaign, visitors to coach.com can create their own hangtag animation by using a Facebook application.
So, JLo Didn’t Go Back to the Block?
You know those Fiat commercial with Jennifer Lopez driving around the Bronx, exclaiming that “this is her home” and yadda yadda yadda? Well, apparently, she wasn’t really in the Bronx. In fact, she wasn’t even in New York or anywhere near the East coast. It seems the commercial was filmed in Los Angeles.
Instead, the role of “Jenny from the Block” was played by a body double, according to two sources familiar with the commercial production. While the Lopez lookalike was actually behind the wheel in the Bronx, Lopez herself was in Los Angeles, where she was filmed inside a Fiat 500.The shots of the actress were artfully merged to make it appear that she was tooling around New York City’s poorest borough. Big Block, a Los Angeles digital production studio, was hired to merge live action footage with computer-generated imagery to make it appear as if Lopez was in the Bronx.
