Horatio Nieto‘s “wandering” collections from 2009 to 2011 were showcased in “Fashion Nomad” in Highland Park on Wednesday evening at Vibe at 1935.  When we met up with Horatio Nieto, he said that he wanted to show pieces from his past collections, including men’s and women’s lines, that represent fashion and culture across the world in design and time. Nieto recently opened a new studio in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago – located near the Textile Outlet, where customers come in off the street to see his new chic boutique. Nieto’s specialty has been day and evening dresses and gowns, but he recently added wedding gowns to his offerings. The main reason for this change? “Wedding gowns are recession proof. Brides will still spend money on that very special dress.” he said, “When I have wedding fashion shows, the dresses are presented in color so that the details can be seen. And the pieces can also be worn as eveningwear.” North Shore jewelry designer LeAnita Ragland-Brooks displayed her extraordinary collection during the show using vintage pendants and large coral and semiprecious stone beading.

Vibe at 1935 owner Lisa Norcia-Appelbaum hosted the fashion show at her lounge which she described as, “City vibe with all the drive.” Vibe is known for live music, a hip atmosphere, and shared plates…not your typical bar food. A local hangout for many Bears and Bulls players (and their wives), the club hosts engagement parties, girls’ nights out, fashion shows and holiday gatherings. Music was provided by the rockin’ DJ Famos and hair and makup by Salon Vole. Second City Style and Factio Magazine were media sponsors for the event.
