Karl Lagerfeld unveils the first look of Karl, Hermes still brings in major money and Liv Tyler is singing notes for Givenchy

Karl Lagerfeld Gears Up for Karl

Karl Lagerfeld has leaked the first image of his new Karl collection, slated to debut exclusively on the e-tail site Net-a-Porter on Jan. 25 and on the month after. The image shows Dutch model Saskia de Brauw in slim black pants, a silvery blouse and a sleeveless leather motorcycle vest, styled à la Lagerfeld with a detachable shirt collar and fingerless leather gloves.

Press materials for the line laud it as “ironiK, artistiK, aKcessible,” with graphic silhouettes and rock ’n’ roll accents of vinyl, rubber, leather and sequins. Styles include draped T-shirt dresses, silk blouses, hooded sweatshirts, short dresses and capri pants. As reported, the debut women’s line — priced to retail from about 60 to 300 euros, or $95 to $450 at current exchange rates — will be unveiled in its entirety during a launch event during Paris Couture Week on Jan. 25.

Hermès Bag Brings in the Big Bucks

A Hermès handbag has set a world record for the highest price for a handbag sold at public auction, fetching $203,150 at a sale in Dallas, Texas. The bag, officially named Hermès Exceptional Collection Shiny Rouge H Porosus Crocodile 30 cm Birkin Bag with Solid 18K White Gold & Diamond Hardware, sold on Dec. 6 to a collector who wished to remain anonymous, according to Heritage Auctions.

“This is an extraordinary example of one of the world’s most exceptional handbags, and this was certainly an exceptional price, exceeding our highest expectations at every corner,” said Matt Rubinger, director of luxury accessories at Heritage Auctions.

Liv Tyler to Sing for Givenchy

Liv Tyler is poised to make her singing debut for Givenchy. As the face of the Very Irrésistible Givenchy fragrance since its launch in 2003, the actress has appeared in many an advertisement for the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned brand. This time, Givenchy stated it has worked with Sony Music Entertainment on “an electrifying meeting between the world of rock and the universe of perfume.” Tyler’s reinterpretation of a yet-to-be-divulged hit is to be produced by David Andrew Sitek.
