Thanks T magazine for this late afternoon pick-me-up! They got the first scoop on Jason Wu’s capsule collection for Target, which debuts on Feb. 5. And while we’re not sure it will garner quite the same maniacal hype that Missoni for Target did, causing a full-on web crash, the collection does look more like actual fashion than some of it’s predecessors.
This is Wu’s first collaboration with a mass retailer, and the designer was vocal on the source of the line’s inspiration, drawing much of it from French New Wave films and the actress Jean Seberg. The general aesthetic of “gamine chic” resonates, from nautical-inspired pieces, like this Riviera cotton A-line dress dress, to refined, ladylike looks to sportier knits and tennis skirts. “My goal was not to duplicate anything from my main collection,” Wu says. “Instead I designed completely new clothes and accessories that reflect my taste and have a voice of their own.” Yet there are undeniable threads his influence, like the evidence of animal friends. Milu, a saucy little cat who serves as the mascot of the collection draws parallels to Miss Wu, a girly little owl and one of Wu’s signature touches.
Stay tuned for more images as they are revealed and as always, mark Feb. 5 in your calendars for the next wild ride.
