We know you’ve been seeing those JCPenney commercials screaming and yelling about who knows what. Well, we got your answers! Starting today, expect some big changes happening with the department store brand. This stems from the new Chief Executive Ron Johnson taking control of how JCPenney will operate their business. Here are a few changes you can expect:
- There will only be 12 promotions a year. This is (supremely) down from the previous 500+. JCPenney decided to drastically cut the number of promotions it runs a year to just one seasonal sale a month.
- Pretty colors! Each month will now get its own color. I can tell you, I got the new JCPenney catalog yesterday and just as expected, there was a lot of red. You know, red… February…. Valentine’s Day… Yeah, I know. And if you couldn’t tell from the catalog alone, that color will be displayed throughout the entire store.
- The return policy will be a lot easier. You will be allowed to return anything, any time, for any reason. Pretty damn simple.
- Expect year-round cheaper prices. Because JCPenney caught on that many customers don’t buy the products until they are 40% to 60% off, they will now be 40% to %60 off all the time.
- Look for the new shops-in-shops. This is a new trend (especially since that rumor started that Apple stores would reside in select Targets). Over the course of a year, shops from Liz Claiborne, Izod, and L’amour Nanette Lepore will all begin to make appearances, until the entire department store is separate shops.
And you may think that this is one department store chain change… but if this takes off, it has the possibility to revolutionize the way shopping is done. Remember way back when young, relatively unknown designers were doing a few small one-off collaborations with clothing stores like H&M and Target? Now, we can’t go two weeks without hearing that so-and-so is working with Target/Sears/H&M/TopShop/etc.! Stay tuned…
