February marks the month for a lot of things in the fashion world, and this year’s is especially notable since Harper’s Bazaar will reveal their newly redesigned self on Valentine’s Day. And what better pick to front the fashion tome’s new look than the celeb who wears a thousand hats herself, Gwyneth Paltrow. WWD released a first look at the much talked about cover, featuring a mysterious looking (and very svelte) Paltrow with 40’s style waves and a slinky black dress.
But the cover’s not the only thing that’s been highly anticipated in the revamped format. The Harper’s Bazaar March issue will boast a 15.5 percent ad increase, something editor in chief Glenda Bailey is understandably very proud of. “It’s going to take a while to get through it,” Bailey said to WWD, referring to the thick spread of advertisements in the front of the book. “We’re going to be here for a while.”
As for actual content, a new feature to the glossy will be “The List” is what Bailey refers to as, “This is the ultimate list of things to be aware of this month.” Other notable morsels include Derek Blasberg’s “Best-Dressed List,” this month’s cover story which spends 24 hours with Tom Ford (He woke up at 4:30 a.m., took four baths and ate two doughnuts), and an expanded beauty section from four pages to ten. Old favorites like Bailey’s monthly feature “Fabulous at Every Age” will be maintained.
Terry Richardson, a longtime contributor, photographed Paltrow for the cover, who holds the key to all the gleaming treasures inside the brand new issue. Bailey calls the choice to not feature Paltrow’s face”daring”. We figure, she’s already been an actress, a Glee star and a gourmet chef— it was only a matter of time before becoming the sexy cover model too. But we’re VERY excited for the newest Harper’s Bazaar issue, which hits stand February 14th!
