New York Fashion Week Fall ’12: Douglas Hannant Pink Meets Uptown with Downtown

February 9, 2012 • Fashion Blog, Fashion Shows, New York Fashion Week Fall '12

Summary: With a name like “Pink Collection” one might have initially thought that Douglas Hannant’s premiere presentation of the label would include bright floral prints and various shades of greens, pinks, and. What they got instead was a mixture of modern uptown-meets-downtown looks in a classic school-girl uniform style silhouette.

Let’s break that down, why uptown-meets-downtown? In a piece like the finale, uptown style is found in the a classic shift dress silhouette while downtown finishing touches re-transforms it with embellished with floral paillette boucle on the skirt while its top half maintains a strong black leather structure. You will never look at a spicy brass-colored cable knit long cardigan the same way again after you see it placed casually atop the hand-beaded feather shift dress that captivated the audiences’ attention.

Hannant toned things down with a sprinkling of basic dresses and skirts that hinders on memories of a classic school uniform. The deep plum short sleeve mini dress was modernized with a collection of bows at the skirt while a black and ivory windowpane-patterned Claudine collar shift dress brought back memories of 70s-chic.

Finalizing the nostalgic look of the school-girl uniform was the styling of neutral colored knee high socks paired off with conservative oxfords. Hair and make-up was at a minimal, with hair cascading sleekly and impossibly straight down the models’ back and natural beauty is brought forward in a barely there makeup finish.
