New York Fashion Week Fall ’12. Ann Yee’s Intelligent Dynamism.

February 10, 2012 • Fashion Blog, Fashion Shows, New York Fashion Week Fall '12

Summary: Having interned with Jill Stuart and done knitwear for Alice + Olivia, Barney’s, LaROK and Elizabeth and James, Ann Yee has plenty of experience bolstering her own line, which she began in Autumn 2009. And it shows.

For Fall, Ann experiments with both visual and physical texture, draping abstractly printed tunics and skirts with long knit cardigans and over sheer panels of fabric. Not only does she employ unique, fresh approaches to layering, but her vivid color combinations and various explorations of proportion (oversized, asymmetrical, elongated, shortened) all contribute to a collection that is visually dynamic and uniquely seasoned.

Her woman is urban and edgy, but witty — she wears shiny Doc Martens with that “rainbow in the water” effect, and braids her hair up the back, teasing it into a chic hornet’s nest at the forehead. She may not care about what other people think, but she cares deeply about the creativity of clothing, style, and the artistry behind design techniques. In a word, she is pretty damn cool (Okay, five words).

Ann’s is a very exciting collection, with authenticity and a great deal of intelligence. When it comes to fashion, she definitely has something fresh and new to say, and we’re excited to listen in.
