You Can’t Fake Fashion…
Ebay and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) are teaming up again to fight counterfeit goods being sold. After having a summer campaign of sold-out totes, their campaign, titled You Can’t Fake Fashion, is currently being featured at the Lincoln Center during fashion week. Around twenty totes were selected to be shown at a special exhibition in the event lobby at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week from February 9 until the 16th.
With designer bags and shoes being sold every 16 seconds on eBay, the company is working to fight the global trade of counterfeits. By partnering with brand owners and organizations, such as the CFDA, they are bringing attention to the issue globally. The online retailer attempts to remove any listed items that have been reported as counterfeit or are suspicious. eBay provides information about counterfeit goods to help customer avoid purchasing the goods and works with the government to prosecute the offenders.
Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA, stated that the organization “works to protect designers’ intellectual property…we continue to collaborate with eBay on this bold campaign to educate shoppers on the dangers of counterfeits, raise awareness of our mutual dedication to the fight against fakes and emphasize the importance of original design.”
Over 75 totes within the collection will be on sale beginning March 20th. Designers who participated this season include Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, and Tory Burch. Prices for a standard tote are $45 while customized totes will retail at $200. The bags will be sold on eBay and proceeds will be given to the CFDA Foundation.
