Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall ’12. Reem Acra Puts the Puzzle Pieces Together

February 13, 2012 • Fashion Blog, Fashion Shows, New York Fashion Week Fall '12

Summary: “Feminine power” is definitely the theme of the Reem Acra Fall/Winter 2012 ready-to-wear collection. A dash of skin is just seductive enough without being overtly sexy. The slick red catwalk set the stage for the edgy fabrics and gowns. Leather and metallics mixed with lace and chiffons shows a second skin. The bold contrasting fabrics, patterns and textures come together like puzzle pieces.

The collection seemed to play on simplistic elegance. The gowns were gorgeous with cut-outs or embellishments of beading or lace but not much seemed to stem from that. The major wow factor played simply on the fact that these dresses and leather pieces were made to fit to perfection. Some tried to push the envelope with pieces like the metallic bolero jackets and peplum skirts but many of these items seemed out of place. The line should stick to the dramatic dresses and eye-popping embellishments. It’s what it’s good at and there’s no shame in that.
