Summary: I have been hesitant to write my review since I was bombarded with hatred from anti-fur zealots for saying I liked Dennis Basso‘s collection on Twitter! I was called some seriously nasty names. I love Dennis Basso’s looks (fur and ready-to-wear). I feel if you don’t like meat, don’t eat it. If you don’t like fur, don’t wear it. It’s your choice, but please don’t threaten others for their choices. Anyway, for Basso’s Fall ’12 collection we were off on a journey aboard the Orient-Express. The sound of a whistle blowing and the train cases were the giveaway. The designer admits he longs for the days when a woman traveled in style with nothing but her carry-on case containing only her jewelry and cosmetics. So Basso himself took the journey and translated the feeling of glamorous evenings and special days for today’s modern, international woman who wants to ooze femininity. He didn’t disappoint.
What I find interesting is that it seemed every designer showed fur this season, yet Basso bears the brunt of the protests because it’s expected. Yet, if you really know Basso, you know he has dabbled in ready-to-wear the past few seasons with great success. It only seems fair if others are now invading his turf. The gowns were just as luxurious as the furs. Yet, it’s the fur that separates Basso from the rest. Nobody designs fur like he does. I can spot a Basso fur coat from a mile away. This season the show stopper was the bright orange (Cayenne) sable coat. There is no denying orange is everywhere for Fall ’12. Then again his fur cashmere-lined puffer jacket and quartz-colored chinchilla vest with deep cashmere patch pockets was a showstopper too. I also loved the hair which was a low side pony paired with an orange lip. Let the haters hate. I loved this collection.
