Beauty: 5 Makeup Trends From The Spring Runway You Should Try Now!

February 27, 2012 • Beauty, Magazine

The fashion runways not only showcase upcoming fashion trends, but beauty trends as well. Yes, some of the looks are pretty out there, but by the time the appropriate season rolls around, most are toned downed for the everyday wearer. You should always be comfortable in your own skin, so if you feel you are too old or not daring enough to try one of the runway makeup trends (like heavily kohl eyelined eyes)…don’t. However, should you want to try one or two…here are the top 5 standout makeup looks from Spring 2012 you should try now:

1. The Cat Eye

We are not saying you have to replicate or channel Amy Winehouse (may she rest in peace). In fact, you probably shouldn’t go there, but feel free to go nuts with your black eyeliner, or try another color. Yes, some of the most interesting cat eyes were lined in shades or brown and purple.

Shown at: Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Ruffian, Marni, Jeremy Scott, Matthew Williamson and Badgley Mischka.

2. Red Lips

I know what you’re thinking. Aren’t red lips only for winter? Not anymore. The Spring 2012 runway was a case study in the springtime red lip. Every variation was present. There was shiny, matte, light, stained, orangy-red and berry red. Basically go for whichever shade works best for you.

Shown at: Anna Sui, Yves St. Laurent, Chanel, Temperley London, Donna Karan, Thakoon, Nicole Farhi and Jason Wu

3. The Bold Brow

For those of you who remember Brooke Shields’ brows from the 80’s, they’re back! Feel free to skip a wax for an appointment or two. Just kidding, even though the brows are thicker and darker, they are still well-groomed.

Shown at: Jil Sander, Burberry Prorsum, Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, Alberta Ferretti and Derek Lam

4. Sun-kissed Cheeks

Nothing looks healthier than a flushed, barley there blush. The goal here is to look like you just played a few sets of tennis. From peach, to bronze to berry…use a light hand.

Shown at: Micheal Kors, DKNY, Tracy Reese, Tommy Hilfiger, Rag & Bone, Missoni, Diane von Furstenberg and Stella McCartney

5. Baby Doll Lashes

Think 60’s, feathered, doe-eyes. You basically want the most length and volume on the outside lashes and a little mascara to the lower lashes as well. It may take several coats of mascara, Lastisse and/or some falsies, but do whatever it takes! Remember to keep the rest of your makeup barley there, including one shade of matte eyeshadow and a pale lip color when sporting this look.
