Trend For Spring 2012: Cut It Out!

March 16, 2012 • Fashion Blog, Shopping, Trends

Cut-out details from exposed knit shoulders to laser cut leathers is a big trend for Spring 2012. Even athletic performance fabrics have been cut away and perforated to look sexy. A little pop of skin when paired with long and otherwise heavy fabrics is a refreshing way to lighten them up for warmer temperatures. If you are over statement pieces and embellishments, you may want to try cut-outs a la Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of this month’s Harper’s Bazaar. OK, granted, that look is a little too exposed for every day or someone say, over the age of 40. Personally I prefer the cut-out trend when there is just a sliver of exposed flesh. It looks a little more refined. The bigger the cut-out the greater the risk of looking trashy…and you never want that. Also, make sure the area you expose is one you are proud of. Don’t go for a midriff cut-out if your abs aren’t washboard taught. Here are 10 cut-out items that are intriguing:
