Victoria Beckham on Broadway?
As much as many would like to see fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham on stage singing and dancing (or at least whomever is playing her part), we may never get the chance. A Planned musical inspired by the tunes of the Spice Girls, “Viva Forever,” is taking forever to develop because members of the ’90s pop group still can’t get along. Judy Craymer, who was behind the mega-musical “Mamma Mia!,” is producing, and Jennifer Saunders, who starred in cult hit “Absolutely Fabulous,” is writing the show, which we’re told would follow a mother who takes her daughter to a talent competition, all set to Spice Girls tunes.
But sources say the five original “Wannabe” singers are holding things up: Even though they won’t be in the show, they’re supposed to be giving Saunders feedback and ideas. “Melanie Brown [Scary Spice] and Melanie Chisholm [Sporty Spice] can’t agree on anything,” says a source. “It’s driving Jennifer crazy.” Meanwhile, Beckham is busy with her fashion line, and just isn’t as enthusiastic as the rest. The show, which has been scheduled to debut in London by year’s end, has reportedly been delayed before because of the busy former pop stars’ scheduling issues.
Avon Rejects Coty Deal
Avon Products Inc. rejected a $10 billion takeover offer from Coty Inc. The ailing direct merchant said its board considered Coty’s offer of $23.25 a share, but determined that the unsolicited and non-binding expression of interest was an effort to get a “free look” at its books.
Avon said the offer represents only a 20 percent premium over its closing price on Friday and does not reflect the fundamental value of its global franchise. The offer equals only 1.1 times Avon’s annual revenues and 8.7 times its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. The direct merchant said it is committed to finding a new chief executive officer to take the reins from Andrea Jung and “executing against what the company believes are its strong long-term prospects.”
Rent the Runway Dating Site? Keep Dreaming
A strange email appeared in many inboxes yesterday from Rent the Runway. Apparently, the discount luxury rental site collaborated with Bonobos to create “Pashion Sense”, a dating site “designed for stylish singles”.
Well, seems I forgot what day it was and turns out it was an April Fools joke. The next link takes you to a page where you know you fell for the joke, but you can snag 15% off your next order. But I was really looking forward to a man that would appreciate Tom Ford as much as I do!
