Ralph Rucci to Receive Andre Leon Talley Award
Savannah College of Art and Design will present designer Ralph Rucci with this year’s honor of the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony accompanying its annual student fashion show on May 19. Rucci will also showcase an exhibition of his designs at one of SCAD’s galleries (a space also named for Talley) and will “personally select items” from his Chado Ralph Rucci line for inclusion. Previous winners of the award include John Galliano, Diane von Furstenberg, and Karl Lagerfeld.
Rockport Taps Erin Wasson
Rockport is on a mission to enhance its fashion quotient. The Adidas-owned footwear brand has brought model Erin Wasson on board to be the official face of its fall women’s shoe collection. The campaign, which will launch on Sept. 1, will focus on “A Day in the Life of a Model,” and was shot at the Divine Studio in the East Village and at the James hotel in New York City last week. Wasson was depicted in both day and night scenes.
“Rockport targets the metropolitan professional,” said Daniel Tschuemperlin, senior vice president of product and brand management for Rockport. “We were looking for someone who represented a sexy, savvy metropolitan person and Erin represented this.”
Avon Taps New CEO
Struggling Avon has a new CEO to try and ‘make-over’ the company. Princeton educated, Sherilyn McCoy, a senior executive at Johnson & Johnson, will replace Andrea Jung, who ran the company for 13 years and sent it into a state of utter chaos.
McCoy ranks No. 10 on Fortune’s “Most Powerful Women” list. The messes she must clean include an overseas bribery probe and technology glitches that affected Avon’s business in Brazil last year.
Last week, Coty offered $10 billion to acquire Avon, proposing to combine the companies’ operations into a direct-marketing powerhouse for cosmetics, fragrances and skin-care products. So far the offer has been ignored.
It’s Offical: Heidi Klum Files for Divorce
Halloween will now be a very sad, sad day. Late last Friday, Heidi Klum and Seal filed for divorce and released a statement to People Magazine.
While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate.
We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.
We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children’s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy.
