Pret Reportuer: Crazy Color Calculations

May 21, 2012 • Magazine, Pret Reporteur

There’s only one word to describe this season’s biggest trend: color! It’s all about color and how to incorporate it to your look from head-to-toe. Even in the fashion capital metropolis of New York City, where black rules the pavement, true fashion loyalists can be spotted fearlessly donning bright hues. In fact, we probably haven’t had this much fun coloring since we left behind our Crayola crayons in grade school.

The true test of style comes not whether a girl can rock a funky color, but whether a girl is able to combine the vibrant hues with other major spring trends. This calls for some major fashion mathematics!

High-Low + Aqua

1. BCBG Avery Asymetric Hem Dress, $168

Everybody gets high, everybody gets low – everybody gets a high-low! This trend is going strong for the spring and summer season. BCBGMaxAzria’s Avery dress puts a modern twist on the style by using a geometric silhouette and adding an asymmetrical detail to the skirt.

Tie-Front + Mango Tango

2. Vintage Havana Top Tie Front Dolman, $65

A throwback to a trend of the early 90s, this carefree beach girl look is back for summer. Best of all, it’s not limited to weekend casuals. Pair with white denim for a chic beach ensemble or opt for chino pants for a commanding presence in the office.

Color Block + Sky-High Heel

3. Giuseppe Zanotti Color-Block Patent-Leather Sandals, $695

Adding a pop of color with statement heels? Oldest trick in the book. Combining a myriad of bold neon colors to a pair of 6 ½ inch patent leather sandals? Beyond fierce! Guiseppe’s heels literally gives you that extra boost of fashion confidence to strut the streets like it’s your personal runway. A word of caution: if you can’t master monster heels opt for a lower (and safer) height. There’s no faux pas bigger than a girl who can’t handle her heels.

Clutch + Colored Python

4. Proenza Shouler PS1 Pochette Python, $1735

Hobos and top bags? So over it! This year, it’s all about the clutch! Don’t limit your thinking to the traditional mini-me editions restricted to formal evening events. Think oversized clutches fit to carry your everyday essentials; even go so far as thinking you can wear it on your shoulder! Proenza Shouler’s python number, with its eye-drawing hue, is the one clutch you should never let go.

Neon + Nails

5. NARS Thakoon Koliary Limited Edition Nail Polish, $18 per bottle

The king of killer patterns teamed up with the beauty masters of color to create a line of vibrantly pigmented nail polish based off the designer’s Spring 2012 collection. Inspired by the excitement and life of the Indian spice market, this limited edition collection features colors ranging from a sunshine yellow to a pretty pink and magical blue. Cut-off Denim + Color

6. Rag & Bone Jean Shorts Denim Cut-Offin Bright Orange, $154

We must pay homage to the trend that started it all. When J Brand released a line of colored denim last spring, we couldn’t get enough. The cold winter weather didn’t stop the trend; colors were merely muted to shades of forest green and ruby red. Now with its second revolution around the calendar, the trend is as strong as ever! Neon yellow and tangerine orange, such as Rag & Bone’s Cutoffs are the new kids on the block.
