Style Sleuth: Dangerous Hardware

May 21, 2012 • Magazine, Style Sleuth

Spikes?! How can I wear spikes?…you wonder. Well, it’s not that hard. All you need to do is figure out if you want them to be a small pop of intrigue to your outfit or the huge standout piece. Think of just adding a little bit to your outfit, try a small spike ring or a simple gold necklace with a spike pendant. Want to go bigger? Try layers and layers of spiky chainlink bracelets or taper curved spike earrings.

It can never hurt getting one spiky piece and building around it. That works especially well with either shoes or handbags. A heel or clutch covered in spikes is always a way to get noticed. Just make sure you watch yourself and those around you!

Maybe jewelry or accessories are not your thing. You want these statement accents on your clothing. Small details of shoulder accented dresses of studded encrusted collars are always an option. Headbands featuring small spikes are a fun way to add this shiny hardware to your outfit without being too overwhelming.

Make sure to limit yourself to one piece or you could end up looking like a gothic biker girl gone wrong. Keep it to a minimum and you’ll be just fashion-forward enough without going over the edge. With studs and spikes, every piece is a glamorous statement piece!

Great idea. A handbag that looks great and can be used as a weapon too.
