Pret Reportuer: The Cold-Shoulder Treatment

June 18, 2012 • Magazine, Pret Reporteur

Lately it seems that outfits have been missing a little something. Yes, you don’t have to look too hard to see that the cold-shoulder trend is hot right now. From the boardwalk pier of Santa Monica to the concrete jungle of New York City, the strategically-placed cut-out is finding its way to women’s closets everywhere.  There’s just something so mysteriously sexy and alluring about a who girl rocks demurely bare skin; it’s edgy, modern, and yet timeless. So go ahead: give them the cold-shoulder treatment!

1. Twelfth St. By Cynthia Vincent Cold-Shoulder Romper, $275

Be ready to get your flirt on with a ruffly bright pink romper that’s as hot as the temperature outside. The comfy fit instantly makes it the new favorite in your wardrobe; while small details such as its cuffed bottom, cinched waist, and deep v-neck keep it from looking too casual. A piece like this is perfect for that summer pool party you may be planning!

2. Chelsea Flower Cold-Shoulder Blouse, $138

This silk Chelsea Flower top seriously takes the saying “Go big or go home” to a whole other level! The deep turquoise hue and super-sexy, collar-baring neckline is enough to make any girl (or guy for that matter!) swoon. The key-hole cut-out and over-sized sleeves definitely gives this look a dramatic finish.

3. Equipment Nixie Cold-Shoulder Blouse, $208

The classic Equipment top has been given a quick summer makeover! Equipment has taken its popular and timeless silk tuxedo button-down blouse and, for lack of a better work, gave it a trim. The result is this fun and flirty cold-shoulder top in a refreshing melon color.

4. Donna Karan Cold-Shoulder Jersey Dress, $1595

Leave it to Donna Karan to provide us a Little Black Dress that more than raises the bar. This sexy, slim-fitted frock exudes class and sophistication at every angle. Its drapey v-neck universally flatters its bearer and its below-the-knee hem gives it a retro-glam finish.

5. 3.1 Phillip Lim Cold-Shoulder Sweatshirt, $245

Who ever thought a sweatshirt could be so chic?! 3.1 Phillip Lim puts a very raw – almost industrial – touch to this casual top with its asymmetrical bottom hem and laid-back fit. This top is the perfect finishing touch to your downtown-Soho look, especially when paired with leather bottoms and layered tank top underneath.

6. Parker Cold Shoulder Tie Top, $187

Parker always seems to be the master of amazing prints, and this button-down blouse is no exception! The abstract, black-and-white print is strikingly bold and clearly makes a statement. Even when it’s paired back to summer basics, like a denim cut-offs, this top keeps your summer ensemble from looking too casual.
