Conde and Carine Clash
It’s war between Condé Nast and former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. Sources say Condé’s International chairman Jonathan Newhouse has been ordering photographers and editors not to work with Roitfeld for her new magazine CR Fashion Book. In September, Roitfeld plans to launch the biannual title with Fashion Media Group LLC — home of V, V Man and Visionaire — out of an office at The Standard, East Village hotel.
According to Page Six, after Roitfeld announced her plans for the magazine, Newhouse sent word to photographers including Mario Testino, Craig McDean, David Sims and the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott team “reminding” them of their exclusivity with Condé Nast to shoot for its titles including Vogue, W, Glamour, Vanity Fair and Allure.
“Everyone is buzzing about the Condé roadblocks against Carine,” one fashion insider said. “People love Carine but are more frightened of the Condé Nast machine.”Roitfeld left French Vogue under controversy in 2011, with whispers that Newhouse himself grew tired of the editor after a controversial Tom Ford-themed issue featuring styled-up young girls in heavy makeup and ball gowns.
Cat Marnell Leaves xoJane.com
After beauty columnist Cat Marnell left xoJane.com claiming she’d rather do drugs than deadlines, site boss Jane Pratt responded to critics who questioned whether she enabled Marnell’s addiction by letting her work while high.
“I thought about whether still providing her with a paycheck was akin to the moms on ‘Intervention’ giving their kids money for drugs . . . I had told her in the months leading up to this that I didn’t want her to be sitting in my office telling me she was sorry anymore.” Marnell told Page Six on Wednesday she’d rather “smoke angel dust” and write a book than work a full-time job. Pratt said Marnell will still contribute to xoJane.com, but not full-time. “I think Cat is a brilliant writer, one of the best, and one of a kind,” she sighed.

Versace Loves Madonna
Madonna took her MDNA tour here on Thursday, but another blonde in the wings had cameras flashing away at the city’s San Siro stadium. Donatella Versace made quite an entrance at the V.I.P. area — flanked by her bodyguards and her daughter Allegra — and was cheered by the crowd. The designer was dressed for the occasion, with a rock ‘n’ roll outfit consisting of tight flare denim pants with crystal details and a matching vest.
“I’ve never missed one of her concerts,” Versace said, a longtime fan of the American singer. “I can’t even count how many times I saw her performing, but it’s always great,” added Versace, remembering how she once flew to Amsterdam to see Madonna on tour.
