New York Events. Rebekah Lea Designs Press Preview.

June 20, 2012 • Bling/Jewelry, Designers, Events

There are so many beautiful venues in New York City that for one to stand out, it has to really be something. That’s how I’ve begun to feel about the Gramercy Park Hotel Rooftop. Nestled on a quiet street on the East Side, the lush, glass-enclosed rooftop creates a vibe that’s half arboretum, half secret garden. And just imagine it at sunset. Due to its airy sense of mystery, the rooftop was the perfect backdrop against which to feature the four debut collections of New York based designer Rebekah Schwartz.

The Gramercy Park Hotel Rooftop

Having just launched the debut collection of her fine jewelry line, Rebekah Lea Designs, Schwartz hosted a private press preview for the stunning premiere collections, each with a unique look, yet all blended together in a signature Rebekah Lea style and unifying beauty. Within the signature four collections, pieces range from dramatic chandelier earrings to delicate pendants, each with an obvious edge. Centered on a desire to create something unique yet wearable and lasting, the pieces are elegant and classic, but with an interesting twist.

Pieces from the beach-themed Monomoy collection

“I strive to create jewelry that captures proper elegance combined with dimensions of edginess,” Schwartz explains. In addition to the four debut collections, Schwartz offers special order pieces such as bespoke masks, shoulder cuffs and statement necklaces. And not only does Schwartz hand make each piece locally, but every piece is one-‐of-‐a-‐kind, designed to be treasured and to enhance a wearer’s individuality, strength and beauty.

Perusing the delicate wares reminded me of everything from a Midsummer’s Night Dream to a Tim Burton fantasy. The pieces ran the gamut from chunky and anchored to spider web-thin and crystalline. Pieces were nestled in materials as organic the pieces themselves, from sand and seashells to grass and bird’s nests.

The four debut collections consist of:

Monomoy: Influenced by Rebekah’s childhood summers spent on the Nantucket shoreline, Monomoy takes typical seaside sights and scenes and urbanizes them. The sliced shell and starfish are signature shapes of the collection, which range from delicate starfish studs and elegant drop earrings, to bold bracelets and statement necklaces. Materials include 14k and 18k gold, silver, precious and semi-‐precious stones such as grey moonstone, amethyst and chalcedony.

Stonality: Beautifully combining diverse elements not usually seen together, Stonality is a truly unique collection of rich colors and strong shapes. From stackable rings to show-‐stopping earrings, the collection is an interpretation of a color kaleidoscope and cleverly plays with precious and semi-‐precious stones in striking colors such as sliced sapphires, cognac and champagne diamonds, pink and watermelon tourmaline, as well as pink and green amethyst.

TRV: An exploration into the architecture of the curved line, every piece in the TRV collection is based on three arrows and composed of ‘V’ shapes. Inspired by the urban cityscape, from towering bridges to the subtle curves of water towers, TRV brings a feminine touch to distinctly structural, graphic shapes. Materials include 18k gold, silver, semi-‐precious and precious stones.

Forbidden Forest: A play on the darker side of natural beauty, Forbidden Forest is a powerful yet intricate collection, which takes a look at nature’s most delicate creatures. From birds to fish and even reptiles, Forbidden Forest finds beauty in the most unlikely places. A take on life after death, each piece is comprised of a cast of a real creature, brought back to life through design. A notably darker collection for Rebekah Lea, many of the pieces in Forbidden Forest are unisex. Materials include sterling silver, 14k and 18k gold, colored and white diamonds, as well as other precious and semi-‐precious stones.
