Nordstrom to Hit NYC – The Update!

For quite some time, people have been wondering if Nordstrom could make it in New York City. According the WWD, they believe the beloved department store can. NYC shoppers tend to be fickle and do not seem to show loyalty to many stores, and customers (and Second City Style NYC Editors) have been waiting for Nordstrom to arrive for years now.

Although the company owns a Nordstorm Rack and Treasure & Bond charity store within the city, today it is expected to be announced by Peter Nordstrom, Nordstrom Inc.’s president of merchandising; Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Gary Barnett, president and founder of Extell Development Company said that they are planning to build the first full-line Nordstrom in NYC. It will be located within a future skyscraper at 157 West 57th Street, although it is expect that it will take at least two years before the flagship store is up and running.

Adam Lippes Buys Back Label

Adam Lippes is returning back to his namesake after a two-year union. The designer bought his way out of a non-compete clause and now is buying back both the name and intellectual property from Kellwood. The terms of the deal were not released however now Lippes is focusing on creating a more intimate label relationship with customers.

The three person design team is creating a line for this upcoming February, where Lippes will relaunch his Adam Lippes collection along with women’s and men’s basics. There are also an assortment of bags and belts that will be presented. Instead of a runway show, Lippes plans on having an intimate presentation and looking forward to having a simplified approach to business. We are happy to see ADAM  back!

Google Steps Up Tablet Competition

Just yesterday Google announced that the new seven inch tablet, the Nexus 7, will begin shipping mid-July with a low price tag of $199. The company plans on expanding their Google Play offerings to include magazines; a way to compete with Apple’s Newsstand.

Hearst along with other publishers has signed deals with Google, which includes all twenty titles that can be purchased on Android smartphones and tablets. Single copies of Esquire, Elle, Good Housekeeping, House Beautiful and Seventeen will be available for a limited time for 99 cents. Condé Nast currently offers five magazines, including GQ, Bon Appétit, Vanity Fair, Wired and Condé Nast Traveler. The rest of the magazines under the publisher is expected to be offered at a later date. Other publishers include Rodale and Meredith.
