Happy 50th To The Mini Skirt

Jean Shrimpton in the 60s

Let’s all take a moment to wish a very happy birthday to – the mini skirt! It has been 50 years since Mary Quant, a London designer, first introduced the world to this bold item. Since then, it has taken on many forms and has been worn by such style icons as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Twiggy and even the girls of the 90s television show “Clueless.”

The mini skirt has given us many iconic moments. Face it,  without “the mini” a decade like the 60s would have been radically different and places like Los Angeles and Miami, that thrive on this look, just would not have the same appeal. It’s classic, bold and fun and that is why we are still celebrating it today!

Flaunting a little leg has remained a favorite for ladies. According to Harpers Bazaar, data from eBay sales shows “it’s the second most-sold skirt style worldwide, falling below its more conservative cousin the A-line.” So, happy birthday to the mini skirt and for fashion’s sake, let’s wish it many more.
