Louis Vuitton Unveils Shoe Salon at Saks Fifth Avenue
In late September, Louis Vuitton is scheduled to open a shoe salon at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. This will be the first of its kind for Vuitton. Once open, it will be a key part of Saks’ eighth-floor shoe department. Saks’ shoes department is currently under renovations. President and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton North America, Valerie Chapoulaud-Flaquet said, “Saks Fifth Avenue’s eighth floor has a unrivaled reputation for the most fashionable assortment, from the best designers and, equally, for its exceptional quality of service.” The exact square footage of the salon has not been released, but the salon will be open to the floor but will maintain a distinct Louis Vuitton feel.
Beauty Chains Gaining Dominance Over Department Stores
Beauty chains like Ulta and Sephora are busy opening new locations. Ulta plans to open 1,200 stores. Bluemercury aims to move deeper into the luxury space opening 300 locations. Neely Tamminga, analyst who covers Ulta said, “The rise of Gen-Y is pushing some of this development. This customer is far more educated on the need for preventative skin care and they are seeking innovation. They are also channel agnostic. They just want the best curated collection in beauty: enter Ulta, Sephora, and dot-com.” We will have to see what this means for beauty departments in department stores.
Piaget Launching Rose Jewelry Collection
It has been 30 years since the rose peony was named the Yves Piaget at the Geneva International Competition of New Rose, the watch and jewelry maker is launching a new rose jewelry collection. The collection contains gold and diamond bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces and watches. They will be available in stores starting now through fall. According to the brand, even though the line will be finished by September, the collection will be promoted for the next two to three years. The President of Piaget North America said, “What’s nice about this collection is that there’s a back history. We’ve been making rose jewelry since the sixties.”
