Celebrity Style: What They Wore To Paris Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012/2013

July 9, 2012 • Celebrity Style, Magazine

It’s that time again! If you thought ready-to-wear was the thing of fairy tales, then you have yet to see the wonderful world of haute couture with designers like Giambattista Valli, Karl Lagerfeld, Raf Simons, and Zuhair Murad showing off their one-of-a-kind couture collections for their namesake brands as well as Chanel and Dior. This is the real technical craftsmanship of fashion – the kind of pieces that take days and months to make and are so one-of-a-kind that they can’t be marketed to the masses.

Celebrities, of course, wear haute couture more than most, since they turn up regularly at awards shows, galas, and private dinners where they must show their worth. And while yes, the socialites and luxury fashionistas have been seen in their own couture, it’s the celebrities that give it the most publicity. So it’s no wonder that the designers eagerly invite them to the collections. At Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012-2013, the celebs seemed to turn out in droves, making appearances alongside their own counterparts almost like a play on play of “Who’s The Most Fashionable?”

Yet for Second City Style, it was more of a game of: “Who’s The Most Fashionable?” Here are our picks:

Christina Hendricks at Versace

Versace has always had a strong following, with fans like Uma Thurman and Blake Lively attending their shows. This time around, at least 8 well known celebs made an appearance including Leslie Mann, Fan Bingbing, Lea Michele and Jessica Alba. But while singer MIA wowed in a statement-making gold Versace jumpsuit and jacket, it was Christina Hendricks who got tongues wagging. Why? Because when you think of Versace, you think of loud, tight, barely breathing dresses that cling to the body…and Christina Hendricks is not a tiny small hipped girl who can wear a typical bodycon dress. And yet, she did wear one anyway, and looked fabulous in it. The gold Versace number she wore was topped with a blazer.

Marion Cotillard at Dior

If you think the crowd came out only at Versace, then you must have been living under a rock while the Dior show was going on. Raf Simons made his debut at Dior and he did it with tons of celebrities and fellow designers in tow, including ones we’re not typically used to seeing at Dior, like Jennifer Lawrence.  And while Olivia Palermo wore a peplum and Jennifer Lawrence wore a floral print, it was Marion Cotillard, the face of Dior, that wowed us once again in the brand. She wore a delicate navy blue floral number which was shorter than we’re typically used to seeing from the Inception actress but looked sweet and not overtly sexy.

Diane Kruger At Chanel

Of course the fashionistas were dressed to the nines at Chanel. And of course we took note of the masters like Alexa Chung and Milla Jovovich.  But there could be no couture list without Diane Kruger, who already outdid herself at Cannes and is doing it once again at the couture shows…in a different way.  Hint: Do not try this at home…but it still somehow works on the actress. She wore a powder blue denim dress with sharp architectural skirt and threw in spiky heels and a black beret for good measure. Cute, but couture.

Kim Kardashian at Stephane Rolland

We’re not even going to talk about the fact that Kim and Kanye were late to Stephane Rolland and only made it to the finale even after everyone waited for them for an hour to arrive. Her dress was relatively nice at the show (did Kanye help her pick it out?). While I like the quarter-length sleeves and white flower embellishment. I’m not crazy about that hemline, but demure looks good on Kim Kardashian and she needs to keep the trend going.

Zoe Saldana at Armani Prive

At first glance, Zoe Saldana‘s dress looks like a cute print fabric in lavender and orange. At second glance, you notice the dress shimmers! Pure couture!  In a sea of black and white, even among fashionistas like Sophia Loren, Shailene Woodley and Michelle Yeoh, it was refreshing to see Zoe opt for this unique dress that played well against her skin. That’s what we call going against the grain.
