Chicago Events. Clos du Bois Launches Clos du Bois Rouge!

You would have thought we had all transported to Paris… well, minus that crazy Chicago heat. Last week, guests were treated to a taste of the newest flavor from Clos du Bois called simply “Rouge”. Maude’s Liquor Bar in Chicago’s West Loop was transformed into a dark yet sultry Parisian-inspired lounge with plenty of snacks and Rouge to go around, caricatures, can-can dancers and a “Lady Marmalade” musical performance.

I had a quick chat with Brand Ambassador Katie Lee about the brand new flavor. According to Clos du Bois Winemaker Gary Sitton drew inspiration for Rouge from Clos du Bois’ venerable philosophy—California approachability with French sophistication. Sitton sourced grapes from more than 500 acres of estate vineyards in Sonoma County to create this unique red blend. And according to Lee, there are many different flavors at work to create a distinct flavor for everyone. Following its deep ruby-red color, this charming red blend opens with aromas of jammy blackberry, plum, chocolate, mocha and roasted coffee. A mouthful of sweet fruit and full-bodied lushness follows, with the blackberry fruit accented by notes of toasty oak.

Perfect for the summer season, Lee explained how to best pair the new red wine. “I’ve actually been making a lot of pizzas this summer. Just like a traditional pizza and grilled pizza.” Think it’s hard to make? Think again. “Just take traditional pizza dough, put it down on the grill for about a minute, flip it, then put on your toppings and close the grill until the cheese melts,” Lee explained. “It’s great because the pizza gets this nice charred crust but it’s chewy on the inside. It would be great with the Rouge.”

And don’t worry about this making you feel a bit hotter during these blazing summer months. “I know that when I drink heavy red wines, they tend to make me feel hotter,” Lee said. “I don’t feel hot with this one. When you want a red wine but you don’t want something as heavy as a cabernet, this is a perfect option. It’s lighter and refreshing!” With this summer, I think all of Chicago needs a wine like this!
