Pret Reporteur: 5 Essential Music Festival Fashions

July 23, 2012 • Magazine, Pret Reporteur

Music and fashion have collided like never before!

Sure, we always turn to our favorite singers for style inspiration: Madonna’s latest trend revival or Katy Perry’s crazy new hair. For the first time however, what we – the audience – wear while we’re jammin’ has become almost as important as the rock stars themselves. Seriously, if the Coachella style reports taught us anything, it’s that a good summer musical festival also comes with good summer fashions. So whether you have Lollapalooza, Fiona Apple, or Foster the People marked down on your calendars, here are 5 essential music festival fashions you should not leave the house without.

1. Ralph Lauren GIRLS Cross-Body Fringe Bag, $150

Unless you’re literally a music festival newbie, you should know that a cross-body bag is a major essential. The perfect bag fits is able to fit everything a girl could need while rocking out – phone, cash, lipstick – without weighing down its bearer. The flower detailing and fringe finish on this leather Ralph Lauren bag gives off that retro 70s Woodstock vibe.

2. Current/Elliot The Boyfriend in Haystack Floral, $167

Denim cutoffs have been making concert appearances probably longer than some of the bands on the roster. The fact is: they’re perfect for the occasion. This pair from Current/Elliot has a flirty floral print, modernizing the classic trend.

3. Prada Retro Sunglasses, $365

One would be foolish to enter an all-day, outdoor musical event without packing some shields for your eyes. Break free from the Ray-Ban mold with these Prada shades. They give off a retro-boho finish that’s perfect for the occasion. The splash of green gives it just the right amount of edge, without going overboard.

4. Vintage Havana Lace Tribal Tee, $32

How do you separate the fashion-savvy from the herd? Check out their tees! As everyone else romps around in basic cotton t-shirts with band-promoting graphics, you can be the stylish, cool-girl with this tribal print and lace top. This particular one from Vintage Havana has a myriad of colors, keeping the look likely and fresh.

5. Belle by Sigerson Morrison Booties, $325

Rock concerts and music festivals can take a heavy toll on your feet. Between you jamming out and the crowds pushing, your poor soles don’t stand a chance. So it’s super-important that before you head out for some rock ‘n roll, you slip on something that can protect you from the dangers ahead. These booties from Belle by Sigerson are flat and comfy, and its leather finish keeps you safe from any sudden spills and dives you may take. Again, the fringe detailing gives it the perfect hippie touch.
