Beauty: Inside My Makeup Artist’s Kit

August 6, 2012 • Beauty, Magazine

I often get loads of questions, about what I carry in my kit and what brands I love best. As a makeup artist and beauty writer, I use hundreds of products, however you will always find tried and true cosmetics in my kit. I like to try different products, but I keep what I love on hand. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. So, with that said, I decided to give you a peek of some of the staple items in my kit, and products that other beauty professionals swear by. So with out further ado, here’s some of my stuff!

Before you begin any makeup routine great skin is a must. I prefer a primer that is not too oily and can be used for all skin types. For this I use Embryollise Creme. I absolutely adore this cream. It’s perfect for the driest of skin, and gives skin a nice healthy glow. Embryollise can be used on any and every kind of skin.

Next is foundations. This category is very vast, but I have come to find that I don’t like being over saturated with different formula’s I just like to use what works best for most skin, and Cover FX Total Coverage Creme Foundation is just that. This foundation comes in over 30 shades, is perfect for all skin types, as it’s maximum coverage but can be sheered to a nice minimal finish. I love buffing into the skin for a beautiful airbrush finish. The best thing about it is that it is budge proof, and water resistant. Have to love that, especially for this warm season.

For powders, I love Kett Cosmetics Translucent Powder. There is nothing that I have found that compares to this powder. It delivers absolutely no color to your face. This is the perfect powder for setting makeup, where you don’t want to add color. I have tried many translucent powders and I will not buy any other.

For the most beautiful cheeks, I adore Nars Blush. Their blushes are highly pigmented, and a little goes along way. From mattes to shimmers NARS has just about any shade for any skin tone. Some of my favorite colors are Orgasm, Taj Mahal and for a radiant, luminous look I love, Luster for fairer skin and Love Joy for deeper skin tones.

For eyes, I like a really great shadow, and there are thousands on the market. However, I prefer Face Atelier Eye Shadows, for their silky, versatile, natural, just all around neutral colors. They have beautiful rich, pigmented shades that stay put, and really define the eye.

For lips, I am so in love with Makeup Forever Aqua Liners. They are the perfect budge proof liners. They do not move. For super staying power, I usually fill in the the lips to the center to be sure the colors stays and that any other product can adhere to the lips. For a 3 dimensional look I like layering glosses right on top or just in the center of the lip. When it comes to glosses for a beautiful coverage, I use Yves Saint Laurent Golden Glosses. They have beautiful shades, but they make the most succulent mouths. They are more than what I want to pay for a gloss, but they are worth every penny.

This is just a fraction of what’s in my kit, and makeup artists in general use tons of products, but the good thing is you too can get a hold of these great finds. Just check out my buying guide and you can experience some of the best beauty products on the market.
