Fashionattitude: Go Baroque Without Looking Cheap – 5 Pieces That Aren’t Just Ridiculous

September 4, 2012 • Fashionattitude, Magazine

Please note: I am not in any way opposed to anything ridiculous, but I am not under the illusion that I am in any way “eclectic” (translation: rich enough to tell others to really piss off) enough to really pull it off. So when the Baroque trend arrived this fall with all of its sumptuous charm – complete with fashion magazine models adorned with multiple patterned frocks, bags and shoes with ecstatic embellishments and jewels dripping from their ears to their toes — I panicked: this trend could easily look like a bad Halloween costume. Really bad.

So for those of us lacking the courage (or Ab Fab-esque entourage) to justify such a festive gathering of embellishments and patterns on our body at once, here are a selection of pieces that should be worn solo — and not make you look as if you are coming from a third-rate Renaissance fair. Sigh.

1. Alexander McQueen Wool-blend Intarsia Dress, $1495

2. Sevan Bicacki Diamond, Garnet and Sapphire Earrings, $23,440

3. Lanvin Miss Sartorial Ponyhair Shopper with Detach bag, $2750

4. Jason Wu Velvet and Leather Studded Sandals, $995

5. Balmain Mini Ultimate Shoulder Bag, $1425
